A Virtual Mini-Retreat for Real-Life Couples
Sunday, October 18 | 6:00–9:00 PM ET | Live Online
You love each other.
And yet, somehow, you are having that fight again.
Maybe it's about the dishes. Or the kids. Or money. Or whose turn it was to make the appointment. Maybe one of you is saying, “That's not what I meant!” while the other is thinking, “How do you STILL not understand why I'm upset?”
Or maybe you aren't fighting much at all. You're just busy. Tired. Managing approximately 4,000 things. And somewhere between work, laundry, kids, schedules, phones, and figuring out what everyone is eating for dinner, your relationship has gotten a little less attention than you'd like.
We Need to Talk (But Not Like That) is a three-hour virtual mini-retreat for couples who want to understand each other better, communicate differently, and feel a little more like us again.
This isn't couples therapy. And it's definitely not three hours of me lecturing you about using “I statements.”
Instead, we'll use attachment science, relationship research, humor, and guided exercises to help you understand what actually happens between the two of you when things go sideways.
You'll learn how to recognize the cycle you get caught in, understand what's happening underneath your reactions, communicate the things that are harder to say, and find your way back to each other after you've gotten disconnected.
Most of the important conversations happen privately between you and your partner. You won't be asked to share intimate details about your relationship with a group of strangers.
Think of it less like attending a seminar and more like having an intentional date night—with someone else doing the planning.
Grab your favorite takeout. Pour something good. Find somewhere comfortable. Shut the door. And spend three hours paying attention to something that's remarkably easy to put at the bottom of the list:
the two of you.
You'll leave with:
A clearer understanding of your relationship cycle and why the same arguments keep happening
Tools for slowing things down when a conversation starts going sideways
A better understanding of what's underneath your partner's reactions—and your own
Guided conversations designed to help you feel heard, understood, and connected
Practical ways to repair after conflict instead of carrying it around for three days
Your own “When We Get Stuck” plan to use at home
A workbook you can keep using after the retreat
Who is this for?
You do not need to be struggling to come.
This retreat is designed for couples who love each other and want to be intentional about their relationship—whether you're feeling wonderfully connected, a little roommate-ish lately, or somewhere in between.
It can be especially helpful if you find yourselves having the same arguments, communicating past each other, feeling disconnected during stressful seasons, or simply thinking:
“We're good. I just want us to stay good.”
Your host
Dr. Alyssa Brown, PhD, HSPP
Licensed Psychologist & Couples Therapist
My work with couples is grounded in attachment theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy, but I promise there will not be a quiz.
My goal is to take what we know about how relationships actually work and make it understandable, practical, and usable in your real life—including the parts of real life involving children yelling from another room while you're trying to have a meaningful conversation.

Come comfortable. Bring snacks. Bring your partner.
I'll bring the relationship science.
